Leadership > The Board of Deacons

Meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7:30 PM

The office of the Board of Deacons is one of sympathy and service after the example of Jesus Christ.  It consists of a pastor, who is ex officio, and twelve deacons in active service, four being elected at the annual congregational meeting for a term of three years.  It is the duty of the Deacons to be responsible for the needy of the church and the local community, ministering to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless, and to any who may be in distress.  They are interested in helping those with specific material, mental, or spiritual needs.  They may also be charged with other responsibilities as the session directs, reporting annually its activities to the Session.  It is divided into five subcommittees:

Coordinating Council - This committee through its chairman, will represent the Church to the Coordinating Council.  It will keep the Board, the Session and the Congregation aware of any material that might arise and will supervise the distribution of such help as the situation warrants.

Food Closet - This committee will see that the food closet is well stocked and oversee the distribution of food.  If particular foodstuffs become few, it will inform various organizations within our church family so that the closet might be keep ready.

Equipment Closet - This committee will be responsible for all the medical equipment owned by the church, overseeing its distribution, keeping record of who has what, its condition, and its repair.  If there are any additional pieces of equipment needed, it will investigate the cost, making its recommendation through the Board of Deacons to the Session.

Visitation - This committee will work in close cooperation with the Session's committees on Outreach and Fellowship, to develop and oversee a year round program of visitation with particular emphasis to those in need, to the sick, to the friendless and to any who may be in distress.  It will assist the Pastor in his/her visitation of the sick ascertaining needs.

Flowers - This committee will make certain the flowers are in the chancel for each service of worship, assigning them to someone and seeing that they are distributed.  In addition, this committee, through its chairman, will inform the Church Secretary in whose name the flowers are given and make every effort possible to have as many as possible sign the "Flower Chart."
